In Hebrews chapter 4 it states that the word of God is living and active. Almighty JESUS is the living God who is living and active today. He gets His thoughts known through any means by which He can. He does this by way of people telling stories, debates, movies, science, teaching, preaching and every way you can think of. The goal is to get mankind to understand who He is and what His will is for mankind. The bibles are good books to instruct anyone in the ways of righteousness and what and how to do the will of Almighty JESUS today, however without the Holy Spirit of JESUS Himself within a person the meaning of anything cannot be understood correctly. To receive the Holy Spirit of Almighty JESUS you simply ask Him to fill you with His Holy Spirit.
